The ready-to-prepare yerba consists of many factors, each of which has a different effect on our body. The concentration of the most important of them – caffeine, depends on many components, including the country of origin, variety, plantation and any additives introduced by the manufacturer. Argentinian or Paraguayan despalada varieties, i.e. those from which most of the sticks have been removed, will be stronger than classic versions that have not undergone the process of removing excess sticks. Another aspect that we must remember when considering the selection of the right yerba for us are possible flavor additives, which in larger quantities will result in a weaker strength of our infusion. A separate issue, of course, is guarana, which is a source of high concentrations of caffeine and should not be consumed if we want less of it supplied to our body.

The most important issue of all, and perhaps the most prosaic, but at the same time obvious, is observing your own body and being aware of its limits. If we weigh less, which means a smaller range of kilograms that will be able to absorb the supplied caffeine, we can feel its effects after the first cup of infusion. Our friends, for example, being taller and heavier than us, may not feel anything after a dose several times higher than the one we took. It is also worth taking into account the possible increased tolerance of our body to caffeine, which we may have developed by drinking coffee or energy drinks.

How much Yerba Mate infusion can we drink during the day to feel good?

According to the generally accepted consensus based on scientific research, we can say that the appropriate dose of dried yerba mate would be about 30 grams per person per day. When giving this number, we remember about the specific technique of preparing yerba mate infusion, which involves adding water several times to the already prepared infusion. Taking into account the variety, aroma and water temperature, we can add water a maximum of 8 to 9 times. Remember to look at how a given yerba affects you and, if necessary, reduce or increase the strength of its infusion. We can do this by choosing a different variety that contains a flavor additive or, on the other hand, an admixture of guarana. For particularly brave yerba mate connoisseurs, we recommend smoky varieties such as despalada or varieties with the suffix “energy” in their name. They will be the strongest of all.
